Wanna be a "Key Clubber"?

New Key Club members can pick up an application in either T-5 (Mr. Lerchie's room), T-7 (Mrs. Mcdowell's room), or the pottery room (D-wing, Mr. Bias's room), and turn it back in from

9/14 - 9/23!

In order to apply, you must

-be a sophomore, junior, or senior

and

-have a GPA of at least 3.5

and

-be willing to serve!

To complete the application, you will:

-choose two teachers and a club sponsor to recommend you for the club

-list any officer positions you have held

and

-list any other clubs you are a member of

At a later date, you will be contacted regarding your acceptance to the club, and then there will be a few more steps to complete. But, don't worry! We will cross that bridge when we get to it.

Okay. So you have all of this information about how to apply and what's going to happen after, but you may be asking yourself, Why would I even want to join Key Club? That is a great question, and I hope I can answer that for you.

Key Club, the service organization sponsored by Kiwanis Club, is a nationally recognized high school service club. We basically group up and help the community in various ways. We (the officers) and the other club members search for and find ways that we can help people. We then invite anyone and everyone (even those not in Key Club) to help us serve those who need assistance. It's a wonderful system, and it results in a lot of happy people!

What does Key Club even do? This is another great question! Key Club is responsible for the school cleanups that happen about twice a year (or as needed), we help Student Council out with the Key Club-Student Council Dance (second-semester), and we are responsible for the Jambalaya Muzic Festival! (And that is just with the school!) We also help the Gingerbread House donate stuffed animals to children in need, we help the Salvation Army fill stockings for children around Christmas, we help the Kiwanis Club with some of their annual events, and we do so much more! And the best part is- all of our profits go towards our Back to School Bash for the Valencia Center where we donate school supplies to the children living in the neighborhood around CMHS!

Although this should not be the only reason to join this club, colleges do like students who are members of Key Club. This is just one of many puzzle pieces that will "beef up" your resume.

I hope this has convinced you that Key Club is the perfect fit for you. Thank you for making Key Club a part of your school routine, and we look forward to doing some good with you!

Best regards,

Alicia Smith

Key Club President (2016-2017)
